A Little About Me & Mothers Moon
Mothers Moon is my doula & reiki practice, as well as my natural products business. I am an attachment parenting, stay-with-child/mostly working at home mom, of my wonderful and very much loved eight year old son, who was born through natural childbirth. We are no circ, no vac, natural learning, and whole food eating. Along with my husband of fourteen years, and two cats, we live deep in the woods by the waters edge in a small rural Maine town. I am a birth worker, and also give responsive parenting support. I'm known for my healing & soothing herbals, full moon womens drumming circles, and the quilts, jewelry, soaps, candles, herbal packs, & other natural items I enjoy making. I am a storyteller and an artist of many mediums. My most treasured moments are creating alongside my beautiful son.
When I'm not giving classes, reiki treatments, or with doula clients, I can often be found with my "traveling show", at conferences & fairs. These events are places to find my natural products & personal works of art such as felted creations, hand-painted infant t-shirts, cloth dolls, herbal teas & balms, and so much more. Being a doula and a reiki practitioner, the “crafts” came as a result of these, making natural products that my clients could not easily find elsewhere, and certainly not from local ingredients or made locally, beginning with herbal teas, salves, and soaps, and then adding Blessingway items, homemade baby slings, and the rest that followed. I craft and create with the seasons, using what is readily available in nature (such as herbs, wool, or applewood) in their own season. I also use other resources as they come available, such as my year or so of sewing quilts until my bags of scraps ran out, or a series of clay figures made from a lump I bought at a flea market. Many of the little felt toys and creations stem from another of my occupations, as a children’s storyteller, where puppets and props and items of fantasy are always appreciated. Indeed, most of the items I offer have been created by myself, but some made by other moms, and a few are selectively chosen natural and/or fairly traded products from larger companies. I believe in and practice making a positive change in our world by offering earth-friendly products, and by supporting other families who are nurturing their children in a peaceful way.
